Due to a family emergency and an unexpected trip to the US, I have quite a few posts to publish to catch everyone up on the latest happenings in the Cinque Terre. Please bear with me!
Below you will find the peak-season schedule for the Cinque Terre + Portovenere ferries.
If you are planning on visiting after September 30th, don’t worry! The ferries continue to run (albeit with a limited schedule) up until All Saints’ Day on November 1st. Keep in mind that the ferries will only run when sea and weather conditions permit.
The different pass options are as follows:
Point-to-point ticket prices will depend on the village of departure and where you’d like to go. I’m posting the rates for departures from Riomaggiore below just to give an idea and linking to the rates from the other villages below.
FYI: Prices on the left are for adults and for children ages 12 and up. Prices on the right are for children ages 6 to 11. Small children (ages 0 to 5 years) ride for free with a paying adult.

Remember, the Consorzio Marittimo Turistico 5 Terre – Golfo dei Poeti is the only official ferry line in the Cinque Terre. You can visit their website here.
Heads up: I’ve received numerous messages from readers that have found information online stating that the Cinque Terre ferries are not running (a website states that authorization from the Cinque Terre National Park was not received). Keep in mind this information is not from the official ferry line Consorzio Marittimo Turistico 5 Terre – Golfo dei Poeti and the ferries here are authorized and running on schedule.

Cinque Terre Insider 
We are planning on taking the train from Santa Margherita to Riomaggiore then getting the € 33.00 ferry day pass, ferry to Portovenere including the three-island tour +€5 (do they stop or is it just a boat around the islands?) Do you know how much time that ride takes? Also, we were looking at either The ring of Riomaggiore trail or the trail between Vernazza and Monterosso. Do we need to buy a trail pass for either of these trails? I have heard mention of free trails; where can I find those? Thank you. Love your blog. Very helpful.

The ferry that goes around the islands off of Portovenere (Palmaria, Tino & Tinetto) does not stop (it’s purely panoramic, if you’re wanting to stop on Palmaria there are shuttle boats that go back and forth from Portovenere). The tour of the three islands take approx. 40 minutes.
If you are wanting to take the panoramic stroll around Riomaggiore it’s completely free of charge (and it’s a walk, not a hike). If you are wanting to hike between Vernazza and Monterosso you’ll need the hiking pass (€7.50 per person) and it’s a hike that will take you 2 hours. All trails in the Cinque Terre are free of charge*minus* the coastal trail (SVA) sections that connect the villages.

Just came across ur blog! It’s really helping us navigate 😉 through. We wanted to book on the public ferry through Cinque Terre to get a picture of this beautiful part of the world. Can we just show up and book a space on the spot or do we have to book in advance. Which is the best port to get to for the public ferry?

There are no advance reservations or advance ticket sales for the ferries unless you are a really, really big group.
You can pick up the ferry in any of the villages minus Corniglia (because it’s not on the sea). Starting in Monterosso might be the easiest option.
Keep in mind payment for the ferry tickets will need to be in cash.
